Cities to Dissolve? – Detroit and Surrounding Cities Bankrupt
Just weeks before the city runs out of cash, Mayor Dave Bing was a no-show for his emergency meeting as the city plummets into the abyss.

LANSING — Like a scene out of the Hollywood film RoboCop without all the police department funding, Detroit and surrounding cities are nearly completely bankrupt. Police do not even patrol certain areas anymore, as crime is overwhelming.
In fact, there has been talk of dissolving the cities altogether.
Now Michigan Senator Rick Jones is saying all options are on the table, including dissolving the city itself.

The idea of dissolving Detroit—and effectively merging it with Wayne County—has popped up occasionally in some business and political circles recently.
But mid-Michigan senator Rick Jones is the first official to publicly discuss that as an option.
Jones says Detroit’s local leaders just aren’t dealing with the city’s fiscal problems—and having the state’s biggest city file for municipal bankruptcy would be “horrible.”
“I think everything is on the table,” Jones said. “ I would be willing to consider dissolving the city, if that’s what it took.
“One of the options could be actually dissolving the city of Detroit, and putting all of their functions back into Wayne County. That is possible.”
Hard economic times are affecting other cities across the US, but Detroit seems to be hit the hardest.

Last week, with the city just weeks from running out of cash, Mayor Dave Bing called an emergency meeting of City Council members to try to get them to approve a consulting contract with a law firm.
Under the terms of the consent agreement, such a contract is required before the state releases $30 million from a special bond issue to keep the city functioning.
However, the mayor didn’t show up for his own meeting, citing a family matter. The council needed to approve the $300,000 contract before the state would release the money Detroit needs to meet its mid-December payroll.
Despite the city’s desperate state, it was clear that council was set to vote against the deal. Some council members don’t like the fact that the Miller Canfield law firm had a hand in writing the consent agreement itself, as well as the tough emergency manager law Michigan voters narrowly repealed on Election Day.
Maybe. But the bigger reason may be that many council members loathe Mayor Bing. For his part, the mayor openly holds council in contempt, and seems to have virtually abandoned attempts to work with it.
In fairness, it is hard to see how anyone could avoid becoming exasperated with most of the nine council members, who seem neither to grasp economic reality nor to care about it.
A majority of council seems determined to block anything, even when it is clearly in the city’s best interests.

Those with influence. Governments do as they’re told by those with influence. Wherever there’s a huge disparity of wealth, it’s the wealthy who dictate to government (regardless of any style-tags you might want to hang onto that government). It might be individuals and/or corporations – it doesn’t matter. Wealth dictates to government if wealth is disproportionately distributed.
You want “distribution” of wealth and that makes you either a Communist or a “Useful Idiot” ,same result either way, comrade.
The Capitalists disappeared over 100 yrs. ago.
The Federal Reserve, the Banks owning the Fed, Corrupt Politicos and Crony Capitalists have been ruling mostly without exception since.

There will always be some form of distribution of wealth.
For instance, at the moment there happens to be a considerable redistribution of wealth from those who roll up their sleeves to create it to the parasitic elite who take it upon themselves to soak it up. Somehow, not only do they believe they have the right to steal wealth from those who create it, but they’ve managed to convince everyone that they have the right to transfer wealth from the creators to themselves.
There is a strange assumption about wealth in capitalist nations (especially the US). The assumption is that God creates wealth and passes it on to his favored people (the wealthy). And the wealthy, in turn, if they care to (though they have no particular obligation), pass on the wealth to the less deserving people who are more remote from God – ie. those who toil.
However, the truth is, it’s the people who actually toil who create wealth. The “wealthy” take the wealth from those who create it and return a small (and increasingly diminishing) proportion.
The wealthy, through their ill gotten gains, will use their considerable wealth as influence to claim national government to serve their purpose and ensure the flow of wealth will be one way .. towards the wealthy.

This is what 50 years of Democrat Mayors did to what was once one of Americans finest cities.
Michigan is no different then CA….CA., the complete state went down as the state “operators” kept on (and still continue) running the show like silicon valley was the answer to thier problems.
The big bucks were everywhere, cach flowing like water. Then it stopped.
The state “operators” continued to live the big shot life style, continued to create more taxes, continued to force what “was” left to the money bag’s valley to pay the way for all the freeloaders in the state…primarly the freeloaders were government and its operators.
Then the real truth set in. They met China!
China is now silicon valley. No more taxes to be levied against local (state wide) as they were gone.
Dont worry….something will come along so keep on raising taxes, restricting small busines owners with more taxes…They call em “permits”…that was and still is the answer by government operators, the only way they know.
No goverenment has a product, they have no knowledge or capacity to generate income other then creating slave labor, to be placed on the “serfs” of the state with full intention of the “slaves” maintaining status quoe for the big shots.
Detroit has not understood, identical to what CA. has and will contiue to go thru…the big money company’s are gone.
The “motor city” once had it all, however, they could not keep the income levels they grew accustomed to at hands reach. Greed, more greed! they (the government operators) again used the only tool/resource available, more and more taxes, creating an operrational situation no longer capable of being maintained by the BIG MOTOR company’s.
Unions, no incentative or work ethic by new incoming workforce, higher taxes, other commonly seen degrading and disatoruous give-aways killed the environment for being a “sustainable” to any business.

China now builds the primary “parts” that when all put together, looks like the automobiles we once built completly in the US.

Government, for the last 40 years has forced nearly every business in this country to look elsewhere for new plant expansion, new employees and a new lease on life. The good ‘ol US of A and its operators have done a great job of closing doors on every major income source in this country.
Hello China, Mexico, Taiwan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Canada. And the list goes on. Wally World?—China. Every nickle spent in wally-world is .20 cents gone from the US coffers, this, to include all the business forced out by wally-world.

Yes you are correct but it is worse. I and thousands of others have voted with our feet. I no loner live in Amerika. So my military retirement and social security dollars are spent in a foreign country. I also get back my taxes in my refund from the IRS very year.
Now in simple English that means the U.S. Gov’t gets nothing and all those feeding on their knees at the Gov’t trough get nothing from me.
But this foreign country I live in gets all my dollars and they take them with a smile and treat me very, very well.
Soon there will not be enough wage earners to support the bottom suckers in the U.S.
Vote with your feet and leave. Even then the Gov’t will not get the message. When they beg us to come back my answer will be a resounding NO.
