The History Channel apparently didn’t noticed that they choose to cast an Obama look alike for the part of Satan in their new “Bible” series.

Actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni has played roles in several religious-themed shows and movies before, including the TV movies “David” (1997); “Jeremiah” (1998, with Patrick Dempsey in the starring role); “In the Beginning”; and the Emmy-nominated “The Ten Commandments” (2006).

Nonetheless, this look alike caused a great deal of controversy when the show aired.

The network put out the following response:

“HISTORY channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It’s unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. HISTORY’s ‘The Bible’ is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history.”

From “The Bible” Executive Producers, Mark Burnett & Roma Downey:
“This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics– including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”

Executive Producer, Roma Downey added, “Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love our President, who is a fellow Christian. False statements such as these are just designed as a foolish distraction to try and discredit the beauty of the story of The Bible.”

In other images, it is more difficult to see a resemblance between Obama and Ouazanni, so it is possible that this specific look was crafted for this role.  However, it would be strange for The History Channel to do anything that would question or belittle the establishment in any way.

Over 14 Million viewers tuned in for the debut episode which depicted this Obama look alike.
